MindFix offers support to doctors, lawyers and other helping professionals through one to one confidential reflective supervision with Dr Helen Austin, a forensic psychiatrist and medical practitioner with over 25 years experience. Psychological First Aid support is also available following exposure to adverse or traumatic events.
Supervision provides a confidential space in which to reflect and explore issues within the workplace and the impact that they may be having both professionally and personally.
Psychological First Aid (PFA) is also available to provide support to helping professionals following exposure to adverse or traumatic events.
Professionals who are involved in the helping professions (e.g. doctors, lawyers, nurses, teachers, emergency service workers, social workers) often focus upon client/patient issues at the expense of their own health and psychological well-being. Research has shown that exposure to other people’s trauma and suffering can have a cumulative effect on professionals known as vicarious trauma or secondary traumatic stress. This can produce adverse effects in psychological, physical and emotional functioning that can impact upon the professional in both the work and home environments.
