Dr Helen Austin is a medical practitioner with over twenty-five years experience. She worked as a General Practitioner for ten years before spending another five years retraining in psychiatry, sub-specialising in the area of Forensic Psychiatry. She worked for 10 years in Forensic Psychiatry before returning to work in the area of general adult psychiatry, with a particular interest in the area of trauma.
She also developed an interest in the effects of secondary exposure to traumatic material in the occupational setting and the associated concepts of burnout and compassion fatigue. She has conducted research in this area and has spoken at conferences and courses on this topic, as well as run Wellness Retreats for doctors. In her time in Forensic Psychiatry, she learnt the benefits of engaging in professional supervision and regularly attends her own supervision. She has attended training in the provision of both reflective supervision and psychological first aid.
As a Forensic Psychiatrist, she is well aware of the issue of confidentiality and the expectations that arise as part of being a professional. She is also aware of the cumulative effects of regular exposure to traumatic material and to other peoples suffering and distress. She offers one to one professional supervision and support to professionals in a confidential setting with flexible appointment times. A free initial consultation is offered to discuss the benefits that regular supervision and support may provide.
A free no obligation initial consultation is available as an introduction to MindFix to determine whether this service may be of benefit to you. Small group workshops and seminars can also be provided on request. ENQUIRE
